Writing Tidbit: Hurricane

A waterfall of rain cascaded over the windshield, the wipers battling futilely.  She peered ahead cautiously, driving slowly and rocking the steering wheel side-to-side in tight, white-knuckled motion as she fought the winds.

“It’s just a little rain,” her supervisor had insisted.  Even after most of the conference attendees had melted away, he still insisted on their group staying.

She snorted in disgust.  Her respect for her supervisor had diminished quite a bit over the last few hours.

Another particularly strong gust hit the car.  She winced as the car shuddered.  Departing hotel employees, the latest weather report, and a late burst of sanity had convinced her to leave, but her co-workers at the bar waylaid her as she crossed the lobby of the hotel.  One said, “Come have a drink!” Another was yelling “Hurricane party!”

It took way too long to extricate herself from their clutches.  God-willing, she would be on the interstate and out of here within the hour.
