Third Parties and Data

To collect the personal data listed in the previous sections and to keep my website running efficiently, I rely on several third-party tools and plugins.

From Akismet, a spam-control service,

“We collect information about visitors who comment on Sites that use our Akismet anti-spam service. The information we collect depends on how the User sets up Akismet for the Site, but typically includes the commenter’s IP address, user agent, referrer, and Site URL (along with other information directly provided by the commenter such as their name, username, email address, and the comment itself).”

This my current tool for blocking spam comments and trackbacks on the website.  It does not send personal information to third party services and is 100% GDPR compliant, per their description.

EXACT METRICS (Google Analytics DWP)

This tool provides statistics on my website, including analytics, demographics, and event tracking.  It is GDPR friendly, and you can read more on their privacy policy page.

Temporarily on hold.

As mentioned above, Jetpack provides the mechanism for to subscribe to this blog and receive blog posts by email.  It also provides site statistics (overlapping with Exact Metrics) and spam protection (overlapping with Antispam Bee).  Jetpack’s privacy policy is here, and you can visit Jetpack’s Privacy Center for more information.

As mentioned above under contact forms, this site uses the WPForms Lite plugin to provide you a GDPR-friendly contact form.  See the section above on contact forms.

How long retains your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so I can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on my website (if any), I also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data holds about you, including any data you have provided to this site. You can also request that I erase any personal data I hold about you. This does not include any data I am obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.  This does not include what third-party services do with your data.
